Xbox 360 System Xbox 360 Cheats

How to use these cheats

Button names refer to the Xbox controller — A, B, X, Y, the LB/RB bumpers, LT/RT triggers and the D-pad. Unless told otherwise, enter codes from the pause or options menu, or while playing. Some cheats disable achievements for that save — keep a separate save before you start.

The Xbox 360 console itself has no cheat codes, but it hides a handful of undocumented dashboard functions. These are the genuine tricks.

Clear Download Cache: Go to the System blade, choose Memory, highlight your hard drive and press Y, then press X, X, LB, RB, X, X. A prompt asks if you want to perform maintenance on your storage devices; say yes and do not switch the console off until it finishes.

Cache Warning: Clearing the cache deletes game updates and temporary achievement data, which re-download when you next go online, but it does not touch save files, system updates or the game areas of the drive. It can fix stuck downloads and laggy performance.

Reset Video Settings: Power the console on with the Guide button on a controller, then hold Y and RT while it boots to restore the display settings to default. Handy when you lose the picture after swapping cables or TV modes.

Offline Dashboard Update: If the console cannot get online, download the latest system update on a PC from the Xbox website, burn it to a CD and boot the 360 with the disc inserted; it will offer to install the update automatically.
