How to use these cheats
Button names refer to the Xbox controller — A, B, X, Y, the LB/RB bumpers, LT/RT triggers and the D-pad. Unless told otherwise, enter codes from the pause or options menu, or while playing. Some cheats disable achievements for that save — keep a separate save before you start.

| Firaxis | Jeff Briggs appears as a Jesuit abbot. |
| Max Remington | Sid Meier appears as the Mysterious Stranger. |
| Scooter | The Governor's daughters always love you, however badly you dance. |
| Sprinkler | Your fleet sails at twice its normal speed. |
| Sweet Tooth | Your food stock is always full. |
D. Fencing tells: Choose the rapier for the quickest attacks, then watch your opponent as the bout begins. A blade drawn back at waist height, point towards you, signals a thrust, so parry and counter with your own thrust. A sword held high on his right signals a chop, so duck then counter. A sword held high on his left, arm across the body, signals a slash, so jump then counter. Watch the arm carefully, as the slash and chop are easy to confuse.
