How to use these cheats
Button names refer to the Xbox controller — A, B, X, Y, the LB/RB bumpers, LT/RT triggers and the D-pad. Unless told otherwise, enter codes from the pause or options menu, or while playing. Some cheats disable achievements for that save — keep a separate save before you start.

The original Xbox version of Halo: Combat Evolved has no button cheat codes. Its extras are easter eggs, a secret ending and hard-won combat tricks.
Alternate ending: Finish the final level, The Maw, on Legendary to see an extended ending cinema.
Hidden music: Near the end of Assault on the Control Room, fly a Banshee up to the middle ledge in front of the control room door, walk to the right end and stand still to hear the mournful Siege of Madrigal track.
The Megg: On The Pillar of Autumn under Legendary, follow the long sequence of wall touches and barrel jumps around the cryo bay, then lead the trapped marine to the end room to find a heart and the name Megg marked on the wall.
Talking Grunt: On The Maw, after the dropship pick-up goes wrong, take the first side tunnel on the right in the second group of tunnels to overhear a Grunt's bizarre monologue.
Flood tactics: Pair the assault rifle with the shotgun. The rifle mops up infection forms while one close-range shotgun blast to the chest drops a combat form. Save grenades for clustered groups, and use fragmentation rather than plasma so a charging carrier cannot bring the blast back to you.
Hunters: Only the orange flesh at the neck and back takes real damage; a single scoped pistol round there is an instant kill.
Jackals: Fire through the gap in the hand shield or use a charged plasma pistol shot to knock it aside. A melee attack punches straight through.
Checkpoints: Clear every enemy in an area and the game will usually grant a checkpoint, which matters on Heroic and Legendary.
