How to use these cheats
Button names refer to the Xbox controller — A, B, X, Y, the LB/RB bumpers, LT/RT triggers and the D-pad. Unless told otherwise, enter codes from the pause or options menu, or while playing. Some cheats disable achievements for that save — keep a separate save before you start.

From the Main Menu of Guitar Hero: Smash Hits go to Options, then Cheats, then Enter New Cheat and strum the following fret-button codes on an instrument controller. A confirmation message appears when a code is entered correctly.

| Extra Line 6 tones in the Music Studio | Green, Red, Yellow, Blue, Red, Yellow, Blue, Green. |
| Gem Colour | Red(3), Blue(3), Yellow, Green. |
| Hyperspeed | Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Green, Yellow, Red(2). |
| Invisible Rocker | Blue, Red(4), Yellow, Blue, Green. |
| Star Colour | Green, Red, Green, Yellow, Green, Blue, Yellow, Red. |
| Vocal Fireball | Green, Blue, Red(2), Yellow(2), Blue(2). |
Note: Air Instruments and Invisible Rocker cannot be combined, and cheats have no effect in online play.
