What it is
Echo Weaver is a knowledge-first, time-loop Metroidvania from indie studio Moonlight Kids and published by Akupara Games. It puts you in the role of the last Weaver, a survivor of a collapsed civilisation trapped in a repeating ten-second-style loop where time itself is both threat and currency. The game mixes precision platforming with puzzle-solving and exploration: every loop reveals clues and ‘echoes’ that change how you approach the world and uncover its story. Echo Weaver launches in the UK on 8 October 2026 (see platforms below).

Story and setting
At its core Echo Weaver is a mystery about a fallen utopia and the people left inside its ruins. The opening line used in developer materials — “We set out for the stars in search of paradise. We found something else...” — frames Provenance, a hand-crafted world locked in a fatal loop. You play the last Weaver; NPCs range from a cranky leader and a doom-peddling cleric to a pizza-slinging cat that offers both guidance and characterful colour. The narrative is delivered through exploration and short, repeatable encounters rather than conventional upgrade trees: learning how the loop works is how you progress.
How it plays
Gameplay is 2D side-view platforming with puzzles and light combat layered around a time-loop mechanic. Each loop is finite and consumable: pick up time-extending items, spend loop-time to open shortcuts, heal or trade, and use discoveries from past runs to access new routes. The developers describe the genre as a “metroidBRAINia” — everything you can do is available from the start, but you only gain access to new possibilities by learning the world’s rules. The loop rewards routing and choreography over brute-force difficulty; speed, memory and deduction are the core skills. The Steam and official pages confirm single-player only, with Steam listing features such as achievements, cloud saves and a demo build separate from the full release.
Platforms, editions and UK price
Echo Weaver is confirmed for PC (Steam plus listings for Epic/GOG), Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, with the full release date set for 8 October 2026 (UK). The Xbox Store lists a UK price of £16.74 for the digital edition; Nintendo’s eShop entry and Steam store page list the same release date for the Switch 2 and PC listings respectively. Microsoft’s product page and the ID@Xbox promotional material also link the game to Xbox ecosystem features (Smart Delivery, cloud saves, achievements). Multiple publisher and platform pages show pre-order/wishlist options and note the presence of a public demo on Steam.
Shown so far — trailers and showcases
The game has been shown repeatedly in indie showcases and publisher streams. Moonlight Kids’ own site and the Steam page display key art and feature explainers; an ID@Xbox trailer and an official release-date announcement trailer published by Akupara (July 21, 2026) set the 8 October launch and showcased loop mechanics, the glaive weapon, NPCs and examples of the world’s biomes. Akupara’s July/August dev logs and coverage in outlets such as Game Informer summarised those reveals and the platform list. A demo and multiple gameplay segments have circulated in streams and the Steam demo hub; these illustrate precision platforming, puzzle solutions that depend on looped knowledge, and the game’s hand-drawn visual style.
What we still don’t know
Several practical details remain either unannounced or unconfirmed. There’s no official public list of accessibility options beyond general mentions of usability improvements; specifics such as difficulty modes, full language/localisation lists for the UK retail audience, and physical special editions (collector’s items or boxed PS5/Switch prints) have not been formally detailed by Akupara or Moonlight Kids. Engine details (for example, whether the game uses Unity) are listed in some database entries but are not present in the publisher’s official press materials, so engine attribution remains unconfirmed. Finally, platform storefront pages differ on whether Echo Weaver will be included in Xbox Game Pass day one; Microsoft and ID@Xbox promotional materials have referenced Game Pass in earlier reveals but some storefront listings do not explicitly show a ‘Day One on Game Pass’ badge at time of writing, so platform-subscription availability should be checked closer to launch.
Not yet confirmed
- Game Pass day-one inclusion status: earlier ID@Xbox/promotional material referenced Game Pass but some storefront entries do not show Day One badge—final confirmation from Microsoft/Akupara awaited closer to launch.
- Physical editions and special/collector editions for the UK market have not been fully announced.
- Full accessibility options and difficulty modes have not been detailed by developer/publisher.
- Engine: some database entries list Unity but the publisher’s press materials do not explicitly confirm the engine.
